martian manhunter justice league trailer

If you’ve watched the new Justice League trailer (as I’m sure you have), you’re probably desperate to discover who Alfred is talking to at the end. Here are five theories.

Ever since THAT trailer of the highly anticipated Justice League movie dropped, fans have been scrambling for answers as to who Alfred Pennyworth, everyone’s favourite butler, was speaking to. Answers have ranged from the obvious and generic answer of Superman, to Green Lantern, some even going as far as Martian Manhunter and Shazam.

So without further ado, let’s break down five possible theories on who Alfred was speaking to at the end of THAT Justice League trailer.

1. Supergirl AND Superman

“He said you’d come. Now, let’s hope you’re not too late.”

As the camera pans across a shot of Alfred’s scotch (he has a stressful job working with The Dark Knight, give the man a break), we see not one but two ripples in the drink, as what would appear to be the T-Rex from Jurassic joined the show.

This very possibly means that there are two characters joining the fray of superheroes. What better than the ultimate Kryptonian dynamic duo?

Now we know of Supergirl’s existence on Earth thanks to a shot in the Fortress of Solitude (Man of Steel), showing an opened pod, which is believed by many fans to have belonged to Supergirl.

And of course, let’s not forget the green tinge found in Alfred’s glasses. Who says that isn’t Kryptonite cuffs, used to bind Superman once he wakes up? Many fans speculate he will be brainwashed by Darkseid or Steppenwolf into going against his own team. Supergirl stops him, binding him in Kryptonite cuffs, before bringing him to the Bat Cave. And obviously, Bruce knew of Supergirl’s existence, because, well, I hate to say it: He’s Batman.

2. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)

Look, it explains the green tinge, but honestly, even I’m not convinced of this one. With a Green Lantern Corps movie scheduled for 2020, would DC really risk introducing this character three years beforehand? And after 2011’s performance… You know what? Let’s not.

It is a possibility that it is Hal Jordan (or at the very least a Green Lantern) as he is a founding member of the Justice League, along with the other stars of the film.

We definitely know of Lantern’s existence, and that Darkseid knows of them, as he states “no Lanterns… No Kryptonians.” However, Darkseid could always be wrong. Right? And Hal Jordan can swoop in to save the day.

3. Martian Manhunter

The extra-terrestrial alien from Mars is quite a likely possibility, with many die-hard fans wanting nothing more than to see him make an appearance on the big screen. He’s appeared in the CW hit, Supergirl, and with the film taking a very (literally) out of this world approach, having the Martian would make sense.

Plus, if Superman does indeed turn against the League, they’re going to need all the muscle they can muster. The Manhunter is on par with Superman in many aspects, excluding heat vision, giving the team a much-needed edge when Darkseid finally strolls into town.

4. Hawkman and Hawkgirl

Now before you get out of this article and write a complaint for blasphemy or something, hear me out. Yes, I’ll admit: Unlikely. But even with that being the case, it is still possible.

We see ripples in the drink, two people. And these guys were a big deal in the Justice League comics, just outside of the founding members. Who knows? I am but a humble man, trying to please you with my theories.

5. Aquaman

Everyone is thinking it is some mystery character, but what if it was someone hiding in plain sight? (Assassins Creed fans, see what I did there?).

Bruce has highlighted the Atlantean King’s resistance to joining the League, so who is to say he doesn’t accept at first? This scene could perhaps be in the beginning of the movie. Let’s find out when the League unites on the 16th of November.

Well, there you have it. Five possible people Alfred was speaking to in the latest Justice League trailer. What are your theories for this scene?
