spider-man infinity war

We know some beloved characters are set to fall in the battle with Thanos. Maybe it’s time to talk about who won’t die in Infinity War

The time has come. The release of Avengers: Infinity War is just over a week away.

The film is ten years in the making, and one of the biggest cinematic events in recent years.

Infinity War, along with the mysterious Avengers 4, are intended as a closing chapter to this first decade’s worth of MCU story lines.

It has been confirmed that some heroes will fall in battle, leading to much discussion on which characters will die.

However, the MCU as a whole will not end with Infinity War. Films have already been scheduled for Phase 4. Some heroes will have to survive, to carry the franchise into the future.

Anyone expecting a total bloodbath can breath a sigh of relief. Here are characters who probably won’t die in Infinity War.

1. The Guardians of The Galaxy

Once upon a time, a film based on comic B-players Guardians Of The Galaxy was considered the greatest risk Marvel had taken.

Many expected the studio was headed for its first major flop. One of the main characters was a talking tree, for crying out loud!

Those many were wrong. Once released, Guardians Of The Galaxy became a pop culture phenomenon. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot (especially Groot) are counted among the biggest names in the MCU.

In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2, they find a new ally in the empathic alien Mantis, and the team is complete.

Why the Guardians probably won’t die in Infinity War

The Guardians of The Galaxy have already suffered the greatest losses of any other team in the MCU.

In the first film, the adult Groot really did die. The young Groot we’ve seen since is actually the original’s son.

In Vol.2, they tragically lose Yondu, Peter Quill’s Father figure.

To lose another Guardian in Infinity War would be too much.

Another major point to consider is that Guardians of The Galaxy Vol.3 is one of the few films to be officially confirmed for Phase 4. It is said to be important for plans to launch the MCU further into the cosmos.

Marvel won’t kill off characters they clearly have plans for.

2. Spider-Man

After years of waiting and hoping, Spider-Man finally made his triumphant entrance into the MCU during Captain America: Civil War.

Now played by Tom Holland, the new incarnation of the web-slinger was quickly praised as one of the best.

Spidey next appeared in the well-received solo feature Spider-Man: Homecoming. He will debut as an official member of the Avengers during Infinity War, complete with a shiny new Iron-Spider suit.

Why Spider-Man probably won’t die in Infinity War.

Our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is most likely safe for a number of reasons.

Like the Guardians, Spidey has a sequel lined up for Phase 4.

The deal with Sony that allows Peter Parker to be a part of the MCU also provides a safety net for the character. Marvel probably can’t kill off the current incarnation of Spider-Man without Sony’s say so.

Within Infinity War’s story, Spidey’s relative safety will be justified in that he is still a child. A child that the Avengers, particularly Iron Man, have made themselves responsible for by allowing him into the team.

Even with war raging around them, Tony will want to keep Peter alive and breathing. This could lead to tragic consequences, but Peter is unlikely to be the victim of them.

3. Wanda Maximoff/ Scarlet Witch

Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch, first appeared in an after-credits scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The character made her full debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

She sparks the core conflict of Captain America: Civil War, after a misfire of her powers results in civilian deaths.

Why Scarlet Witch won’t die in Infinity War

Wanda is possibly going to be one of the most important characters in Infinity War.

She is also one of the heroes least likely to meet the Grim Reaper.

The key reason for this lies in Disney’s purchase of Fox’s entertainment division. If approved by government, Marvel will regain the film rights to characters like the X-Men.

Wanda could act as an existing point to help bring them in.

In the comics, rather than gaining her powers from an Infinity Stone, Wanda is a mutant. She is also the daughter of X-Men villain/anti-hero Magneto.

Killing Wanda would destroy a relatively easy way to introduce an iconic character. There’s no way Marvel will risk that, when incorporating mutants into the MCU will be tough as it is.

4. Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange’s solo film gave him an action packed introduction to the MCU.

By the film’s end, among many other important events, he becomes the keeper of an Infinity Stone: The Time Stone, concealed inside the Eye of Agamotto.

This means, of course, that Thanos will be gunning for him.

Why Doctor Strange won’t die in Infinity War

I admit, being an obvious target of the Mad Titan seems like a bad sign.

Things also don’t look that great for Doctor Strange in the second trailer, with a brief shot of him apparently being tortured.

But… he’s probably going to be okay.

Like fellow newer heroes Captain Marvel and Black Panther, Strange is one of the characters on whom Marvel is said to be pinning their future hopes.

Some fans even have him pegged as a future leader of the Avengers.

5. Thor

As one of Marvel’s more mystical main players, 2011’s Thor was the first of many films predicted as the studio’s first flop.

Instead, the God of Thunder became a pillar of the MCU, catapulting his portrayer Chris Hemsworth onto the A-List.

Guardians Of The Galaxy described the Infinity Stones to viewers for the first time, but it was Thor who delivered this information to the Earth-bound Avengers.

Why Thor won’t die in Infinity War

Until recently, fans believed Thor was one of the characters most likely to meet his Maker in the next few films. Some even predicted his death would come as early as Avengers: Age of Ultron.

This theory rose because, like Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth’s contract will end with Avengers 4.

Opinions shifted after the release of Thor: Ragnarok. With Director Taika Waititi, Hemsworth found new passion for his character. He has since expressed interest in a fourth Thor film, if a good script comes along.

Chris Evans will soon depart, and Robert Downey Jnr cannot keep playing Iron Man forever. If Hemsworth is willing to make another film, Marvel would be crazy to let him go.

Conclusion

It’s okay to worry about losing some of our favourite heroes. Every Marvel fan is probably a little bit worried right now.

That said, it is important to have hope for the future.

There will be life after Infinity War.
