Sabrina Spellman is in trouble. A lawsuit from The Satanic Temple could cause trouble for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2.

In episode three of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Sabrina Spellman was sued by The Church of Night.

Now, in a case of life imitating art, the real life Satanic Temple is suing Netflix, where the show streams.

The Temple has claimed copyright infringement on a statue of the deity Baphomet that featured heavily throughout The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. They have also expressed displeasure with the way the deity was portrayed in the series.

The Temple is currently asking for a settlement of $150 million.

So, how will all this affect plans for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2?

The dark re-imagining of Sabrina The Teenage Witch has been a hit for Netflix. Some fans have expressed a fear that the lawsuit could cause the show to be dropped from the streaming service.

This is unlikely.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is obviously a high-budget show. With the amount of money Netflix and Warner Bros. have put into producing and promoting the show means they won’t give it up easily. Especially since it has proved popular.

The possibility of a future crossover with Riverdale is also a potential goldmine that is too good to let go.

The worst that will happen is that the episodes could be edited to remove or replace the offending statue.

So, the existing episodes are safe. But what will happen to Season 2?

Here’s how The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2 could be affected.

Some fans have expressed fears that The Satanic Temple’s lawsuit could prevent the show’s second season from going ahead. They do not have to worry.

Season 2 of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is already in production. It began filming soon after Season 1 was complete, long before this lawsuit was an issue.

It won’t stop Season 2 from going ahead. However, it may delay it a bit.

Season 2 will see Sabrina spend a lot more time at the Academy of The Unseen arts. Unfortunately, the statue of Baphomet sits right in the middle of the Academy. It would have featured more heavily in the second season, simply due to the change in location.

Regardless of how the lawsuit turns out, the statue will probably be replaced to prevent further trouble. In fact, the show will probably be more careful with its use of Satanic deities in general.

This means that any already filmed Season 2 footage including the statue will need to edited, or possibly re-shot. Depending on how much footage is affected, this may cause some delay in the Season being released.

But fear not, Spellman fans. Our favourite Teenage Witch will not be stopped.

Season 1 of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is currently streaming on Netflix. Even with possible delays, Season 2 should arrive sometime next year.
