Occupation: Rainfall Concept Art
Occupation: Rainfall goes boldly where no Australian film has gone.

Occupation: Rainfall is set to return after making shockwaves last year for being a monumental film in Australian sci-fi.

When a rural Australian town is invaded by an alien race, the remaining survivors must band together to fight back to save humanity from the brink of extinction.

Directed by Luke Sparke, Occupation proved itself to be a huge Australian science-fiction blockbuster last year. Its stunning use of special effects and CGI complemented the film’s massive story featuring large scale battles and high stakes.

We at Digital Fox were honoured to attend a press screening last year when the first film came out. Needless to say we had an absolute blast with it.

Australia’s film industry has mostly focussed on drama coming of age or niche stories. And while that is a point of pride, it’s fantastic to see a blockbuster Aussie Sci-Fi film thrown into the mix. After all, who doesn’t want to see an alien invader pay tolls for crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

And then there were more…

So of course when we heard that there are going to be not one, but two more follow-up films to the first, we were thrilled. The director certainly had more stories to tell in this ever-growing universe, and that there was definitely a market for this kind of film in Australia.

Occupation: Rainfall is set two years into an intergalactic invasion of Earth. When the resistance and their unlikely allies uncover a plot that could see the war come to a definitive end, the race is on to save all of humanity against the alien race set on making Earth their new home.

Just recently, they have released artwork and a special teaser trailer in anticipation for Occupation: Rainfall. Clearly even that short clip was jam-packed with awesome special effects and epic sequences that will have audiences hooked.

Returning casts Dan Ewing, Temura Morrison, Aaron Jeffrey, Zac Garred, Charles Measure and Trystan Go will be joined by newcomers Ken Jeong (The Hangover, Crazy Rich Asians)and Daniel Gillies (The Originals, Vampire Diaries). It will be exciting to see where the new additions to the ensemble take the plot.

Sparke has promised to up the ante from the last, stating that Rainfall will be “exponentially larger in scale and ambition”. We can’t wait to see where Luke Sparke takes us on this next instalment!

I love all things film and pop-culture. I make puns sometimes too.
