Roseanne Barr got the hit ABC show Roseanne canceled. Can the cast go on without her?

Roseanne Barr is hot this week – and not in a good way. The leading lady of the hit show Roseanne went on Twitter early Tuesday morning and tweeted a racist comment about Valerie Jarrett, who was the senior adviser to Barack Obama during his time in the White House.

It didn’t take long before she had to eat her words.

Within hours of Ms. Barr’s tweet, the ABC Network canceled Roseanne. So now in addition to offending an obscene amount of people, she had also now upset fans of the show. Really great work Roseanne.

ABC’s entertainment president, Channing Dungey, stated, “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values.”

Ms. Barr went back on Twitter to apologize for her actions, but the damage was done.  Many people, including fans of the show, responded with disappointment. The cast and crew of Roseanne did not hold back. Many of them quitting the show, to only find out it was canceled.

Roseanne Conner vs. Roseanne Barr

Roseanne Conner is like Roseanne Barr with regards to saying what’s on her mind. Conner and the Conner family is a reflection of most American families, disagreeing on politics, culture, religion, money, and sexuality. Many families have a connection with the Conner family due to the depictions of making ends meet, keeping the family together, raising kids, paying bills and everything else most American families face.

Roseanne Barr has always had a big mouth, and we learned to ignore it for the sake of the show. We knew to differentiate Roseanne Barr from Roseanne Conner. Not anymore. Peoples’ actions outside of the workplace affect their workplace.

Other Similarly-Canceled Shows

Roseanne is not the first show canceled due to a star’s actions. The Learning Channel (TLC) canceled Here Comes Honey Boo Boo due to June Shannon (Mama June) dating a convicted child molester.

The famous Duggar family of 19 Kids and Counting was pulled from the TLC Network due to sexual abuse allegations against Josh Duggar.

A few shows got pulled from their syndication slots. Take 7th Heaven. The series ended in 2007 and went into syndication. When the story broke in 2014 of Stephen Collins (Rev. Eric Camden) being a child molester, the networks showing the show pulled the reruns.

The same thing happened with The Cosby Show. Once the rape allegations against Bill Cosby became headline news, networks pulled the show from their lineup.

The same thing is happening with Roseanne. I went to Hulu, and all Roseanne episodes have been pulled, except for the behind the scenes one with ABC 20/20 and excerpts from the show.

Viacom, who owns TV Land, Paramount Network, and CMT, is pulling the reruns from their lineup. So far, Amazon still has Roseanne to watch for free for their Prime Membership viewers.

Can ABC Save The Show?

Jimmy Kimmel suggested keeping the show on the air, but replacing Roseanne Conner with Dan Conner. Do you think it is a good idea?

Can a spinoff series be in the works? Focusing on Jackie or on Darlene, Becky and D.J.  Darlene is a writer. Taking a cue from Season 9, maybe she writes a story without her mother. What do you think?
