Spider-Man: Far From Home could tap into a piece of Spidey history yet to be fully explored onscreen.

Everyone has parents, even superheroes. Yet to fans, Spider-Man has always been an orphan, raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May.

The history of Peter Parker’s parents, Richard and Mary, has been somewhat explored in the comics, but only briefly touched on in screen adaptations of the character. An attempt to go deeper was made in the Amazing Spider-Man films, but this came to nothing when a third entry in that series was cancelled.

Now, some are speculating that a plot line involving Peter’s Parents may come up in the MCU’s Spidey sequel, Spider-Man: Far From Home.

A Brief History of Richard and Mary Parker

For the first six years of Spider-Man comics, the fate of Peter’s parents did not come up. Richard and Mary were occasionally seen in photographs, but that was about it.

This first changed in 1968. Peter learns that his parents were supposedly guilty of treason. They had, Peter is told, been spying on the U.S for Russia. Unable to believe this, Spider-Man hitches a ride to Algeria with The Fantastic Four to learn the truth.

There, Peter eventually manages to clear his parents’ names. Richard and Mary were loyal American Agents. Sadly, they were murdered by the Red Skull and framed as spies.

A later, reworked version of this origin has Richard and Mary as S.H.I.E.L.D agents. This is the version that could be used in Spider-Man: Far From Home.

It all ties in to Nick Fury’s appearance in the film.

As mentioned earlier, the revised origin establishes Richard and Mary as S.H.I.E.L.D agents.

In this version, Nick Fury is the one to reveal to Peter that his parents were traitors. However, Nick was never entirely convinced of their guilt. Nick wants Peter to prove Richard and Mary’s innocence.

We don’t know much about Far From Home’s plot so far. With Fury’s appearance in the film, something like the above story is definitely possible.

Alternatively, the film could add a twist and have Nick believe the Parkers really were traitors. If this is the case, it could explain why Fury hasn’t reached out to meet Peter before now. The fact he hasn’t seems strange. The Avengers Initiative is his baby, and he has been very hands-on with the other members.

Maybe, it was Fury who told Tony he was crazy to recruit a kid.

Unfortunately, we will have to wait for the answers to these questions.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released on July 5, 2019.
