Avengers: Endgame served as a fitting conclusion to the Infinity Saga. But what’s in store for the MCU in Phase 4?
Avengers: Endgame acted as the swan-song for many of the MCU’s biggest characters. While we will see Scarlet Johannson suit up as Black Widow at least one more time, Iron Man and Captain America are probably gone for good.
So, other heroes will need to step up to lead the MCU in Phase 4. Who will they be?
Fans around the world cheered when Peter Parker returned to the land of the living in Endgame. Now, Peter is set to close out Phase 3 in Spider-Man: Far From Home.
After his multi-versal adventure, Spidey could also become a very important figure in Phase 4. Far From Home’s latest trailer suggests that Peter Parker is trying to fill the big iron shoes that Tony Stark has left behind. This follows the popular fan theory that Tony is MCU Peter’s ‘Uncle Ben’, and creates an arc that could easily carry the character through multiple future films.
While Carol Danvers’ screen time in Avengers: Endgame was minimal, she made every second of it count. Captain Marvel rescues Tony and Nebula from being stranded in space, destroys Thanos’s ship, and takes a headbutt from the Mad Titan without flinching. It is only a direct shot with the Power Stone that takes the hero down.
It is no secret that Carol has been set up as the new big leader of the MCU. While a sequel to Captain Marvel has not been officially announced yet, it is only a matter of time before she comes back to the big screen.
King T’Challa, aka Black Panther, leads the charge into one of Endgame’s biggest scenes, as the first character we see restored by Hulk’s snap. He then joins in the effort to get the Infinity Gauntlet to Captain Marvel.
The first Black Panther film made a huge splash onto not just the pop-culture landscape, but the film industry as a whole, becoming the first superhero film to ever earn an Oscar Nomination for Best Picture. T’Challa has easily earned his place as a new lead for the MCU in Phase 4.
While Hulk snapped his fingers to restore the fallen heroes, it was Doctor Strange who got them all to the destroyed compound in time to help the surviving Avengers. He is sidelined for most of the fight, trying to keep the battlefield from being flooded, but returns just in time to let Tony Stark know what needs to be done for their one in fourteen million shot at victory.
A Doctor Strange sequel is among the films confirmed for Phase 4. Most fans expect the film will deal with Strange undergoing the rigorous test to become Sorcerer Supreme.
Guardians Of The Galaxy
The Guardians Of The Galaxy, aside from Rocket Raccoon and Nebula, are absent for most of Endgame after falling victim to Thanos in Infinity War. They are restored in time for the film’s final battle, and end the film by agreeing to take Thor on an intergalactic road trip to find himself.
It has long been known that the MCU is set to go ‘cosmic’ in Phase 4. The Guardians, as the MCU’s main space-travelers, are the perfect characters to set this up. Also, after a tease at the end of Vol.2, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3 is expected to introduce Adam Warlock, a character comic fans have been waiting for.
One thing we know for sure, after the epic adventure of the first three phases, we’re in for one hell of a ride as the MCU gears up for big things in Phase 4.
